Hyderabad/Jaipur: Ajmer dargah priest Gauhar Chisti got arrested by the police for making a provocative speech against former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, who had blasphemed the Prophet.
He was arrested from Begum Bazar in Hyderabad on Thursday with the help of Telangana Police. Munawar, a bangle seller who had given shelter, was also taken into custody.
Chisti was taken to Jaipur from Hyderabad. About a dozen police teams were searching for Chisti in several cities.
The FIR registered on June 25 states that Chisti made the provocative speech at a meeting held near the Dargah on June 16 and 17.
Dargah SHO Dalbir Singh said that the police had arrested other accused in the case, namely Fakhar Jamali, Tajim Siddiqui, Moin and Riaz Hasan.
About 3,000 people attended the meeting held at Nizam Gate in Ajmer. After registering the case, Chisti went into hiding. Salman Chisti, another priest of the Ajmer dargah, had announced a reward for the head of Nupur Sharma. Police arrested him also.
