Bhopal: BJP MP and Malegaon-blast accused Pragya Singh Thakur claimed on Saturday that she got a call from gangster Dawood Ibrahim's brother Iqbal Kaskar's man, threatening to kill her for spreading hatred against Muslims, PTI reported.
A video featuring Thakur speaking to the threat caller has gone viral on social media. Its running time is more than two minutes.
Thakur had approached TT Nagar police station of Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency, from where she was elected and lodged a complaint.
TT Nagar police station's in-charge Chen Singh Raghuvanshi told PTI, "Following her complaint about getting the threat call, a case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 506 (criminal intimidation), and 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) was registered in the early hours on Saturday."
He said that according to the complaint, Thakur received the call on Friday night, adding that an investigation is going on into the matter.
In the surfaced video, Thakur is sitting on a chair and talking to the caller, who claimed to be Iqbal Kaskar's man. When she asked who Iqbal Kaskar was, the caller replied that she would know that when she gets killed, which would happen soon.
PTI reports that when Thakur asked the man to point out the comments she had made against Muslims. The caller replied, "You are spreading venom against Muslims and targeting the community."
To this, Thakur asked, "What do Muslims do? Do they sprinkle nectar?" and the caller replied that he was just informing her that she would get killed. After that, Thakur asked the caller to identify himself if he had the courage.
Recently, Thakur supported objectionable comments made by suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. Sharma had insulted Prophet Muhammed in a TV interview which had incited severe backlash both inside and outside India.
