New Delhi: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrows over the devastating floods in Pakistan, and prayed for the early recovery of the nation from the natural calamity.
PM Modi shared his feelings over the floods in Pakistan on Twitter. "Saddened to see the devastation caused by the floods in Pakistan. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, the injured and all those affected by this natural calamity and hope for an early restoration of normalcy," he tweeted.and
Meanwhile, reports suggest that India is contemplating extending humanitarian assistance to Pakistan where the incessant outpour caused floods in several parts of the country and is reported to have claimed over 1,100 lives so far.
The crisis has also forced about 33 million or one-seventh of the country's population to move from their places.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made a call for international help to tide over the unexpected crisis in a country which is already under the financial crisis.
Earlier in the day, responding to questions at a press conference in Islamabad, Pakistan's Finance Minister Miftah Ismail said the government could "consider importing vegetables and other edible items from India" to facilitate people after the floods destroyed crops across the country, state-owned Radio Pakistan reported.
After Shehbaz Sharif became the Prime Minister in April this year, he said that Pakistan remains committed to "regional peace and security" and seeks "peaceful and cooperative" ties with India.
