Talks between the Jharkhand government and protesting students on Sunday made progress towards resolving the dispute over exam irregularities, but failed to end the agitation.
Students will decide whether to continue their protest, including an indefinite hunger strike, while their demand for a CBI probe remains unresolved.
The protest entered its 16th day on Sunday.
The government agreed to set up a panel headed by a retired High Court judge to investigate the irregularities, meeting one of the students' key demands. However, students continued to seek a CBI investigation into the CGL examination.
The government has also proposed cancelling three examinations, the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) exams of 2023 and 2025 and the 14th preliminary examination, according to sources.
After the meeting, Jharkhand minister Sudivya Kumar said a fast-track court would be established to handle cases related to exam irregularities and chargesheets would be filed within 90 days. He described the talks as positive and said students would decide whether to withdraw the agitation.
Student leader Ravindra Paswan said the government had accepted most of their demands related to reforms, but there was no agreement on issues including age relaxation.
On the CGL examination, Paswan said the government had rejected the demand for a CBI probe and instead proposed a judicial inquiry led by a retired judge. He said the Enforcement Directorate could also investigate if financial irregularities were found.
The government has agreed to examine financial transactions linked to the case through the ED, sources said. All examinations conducted by Lucknow-based private testing agency TSR Data Processing Pvt Ltd will also be scrutinised.
The state plans to approach IIM and XISS for assistance with reforms in the JPSC and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission.
Three members of the JPSC PT examination resigned on Sunday ahead of their appearance before the CID on Monday. They were Ajita Bhattacharya, Anima Hansda and Jamal Ahmed.
Six protesters are currently on hunger strike. Student leader Devendra Nath Mahto has been on an indefinite fast, while another protester, Rahul Krantim, is under medical supervision.
