Historic joint tri-services display at Republic Day parade

New Delhi: For the first time in India’s history, a joint tri-services tableau, symbolizing the unity of the Indian Army, Indian Air Force, and Indian Navy, was presented during the 76th Republic Day celebrations at Kartavya Path. The tableau, highlighting India’s military strength, showcased a synchronized display of land, water, and air operations under the theme "Shashakt aur Surakshit Bharat" (Strong and Secure India).

Featuring Indigenous defence assets, the tableau included the Arjun main battle tank, Tejas MKII fighter aircraft, Advanced Light Helicopter, destroyer INS Visakhapatnam, and a remotely-piloted aircraft. This demonstration coincided with the Ministry of Defence’s announcement of 2025 as the Year of Defence Reforms, with a focus on enhancing tri-services synergy to strengthen India’s military capabilities for future conflicts.

A total of 31 tableaux paraded under the overarching theme "Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas" (Golden India: Heritage and Progress), comprising 16 from states and Union Territories and 15 from central ministries and organisations. Among the highlights was the Defence Research and Development Organisation's (DRDO) ‘Raksha Kavach’ tableau, showcasing advanced multi-domain defence technologies, and the Corps of Signals' Daredevils, who captivated the crowd with thrilling motorcycle stunts.

The celebrations also featured India's military prowess through advanced platforms like BrahMos missiles, Pinaka rocket systems, Akash air defence systems, and the ‘Sanjay’ Battle Surveillance system. DRDO’s ‘Pralay’ tactical missile also made its debut in the parade. The grand finale included a stunning flypast by 40 Indian Air Force aircraft, including Su-30 jets and the C-130J Super Hercules.

Women empowerment was a significant theme, with the CRPF’s all-women contingent, led by Assistant Commandant Aishwarya Joy M., marching in the parade. The contingent, comprising women deployed in anti-Naxal and law enforcement operations, embodied the spirit of ‘Nari Shakti.’ The Ministry of Women and Child Development’s tableau depicted the inspiring journey of a girl evolving into a self-reliant woman, while the Ministry of Rural Development showcased the ‘Lakhpati Didi Yojana,’ empowering rural women through self-help groups.

The Delhi Police All-Women Band, led by Band Master Ruyangunuo Kense, also performed during the parade, marking their second appearance at the Republic Day event. The ceremony began with 300 cultural artists performing "Sare Jahan Se Achha" on traditional instruments, celebrating India’s regional diversity. A flower-petal shower from Mi-17 1V helicopters added to the grandeur of the event.

The Republic Day celebrations were presided over by President Droupadi Murmu, who unfurled the national flag and led the nation in commemorating the occasion. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, the Chief Guest, was welcomed in a 'Traditional Buggy,' a practice revived after 40 years. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other dignitaries were also present at the event, which celebrated 75 years of the Constitution’s enactment under the theme "Jan Bhagidari" (public participation), highlighting India’s unity, diversity, and progress.
