Hyderabad: The Maha Lakshmi scheme, which offers free travel to women, girls, and transgender individuals, was introduced by the Congress government in Telangana on Thursday.
The government of Telangana's Transport Department has officially announced the start of the '6 Guarantees-Maha Lakshmi' scheme.
On September 18, the Congress party announced the Maha Lakshmi project as part of its Telangana manifesto. As per the scheme, the Congress party will provide free bus travel for women in Telangana and will also give them ₹ 2,500 per month under the Mahalaxmi Yojana, ANI reported.
Revanth Reddy, the newly appointed chief minister of Telangana, approved all six of the promises made by the Congress party in Telangana on Thursday after taking the oath of office.
Under the Maha Lakshmi scheme, express buses run by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) and state-owned Palle Velugu will provide free travel for girls, women of all ages, and transgender individuals.
The scheme will go into force on December 9, 2023.
The scheme is especially intended to help transgender people who live in Telangana, as well as girls and women of all ages.
Beginning on December 9, 2023, they will be able to go anywhere in Telangana State using Palle Velugu and Express buses.
The beneficiaries will receive free transportation on interstate Palle Velugu and Express buses up to the borders of Telangana State.
According to the statement, the Telangana government will reimburse TSRTC for the fares that would have been collected in accordance with the real distance travelled by female passengers.
The Vice Chairman and Managing Director of TSRTC are responsible for implementing the "Maha Lakshmi" scheme in a successful manner by providing comprehensive instructions and taking other necessary actions.
The statement also mentioned that preparations are being made to create a software-based "Maha Lakshmi" smart card, which would eventually offer a smooth and effective manner to make use of the scheme's benefits.
