Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced on Monday that the state government would decline a Rs 100 crore donation offered by the Adani Group for the Young India Skill University, currently under development in the state.
Speaking at a press conference, CM Reddy explained that the decision was made to avoid “unnecessary discussions” or perceptions of favoritism toward the state government or its leadership.
“The Telangana government has not accepted a single rupee from any organization, including the Adani Group,” Reddy said, emphasizing the administration's commitment to maintaining a transparent image. A formal communication was sent by senior official Jayesh Ranjan to the Adani Foundation, requesting them not to proceed with transferring the pledged amount.
Citing potential controversies surrounding the donation, Reddy stated, “Neither I nor my Cabinet colleagues want to be involved in any situations that could harm the image of the government or myself. Therefore, we have declined the Rs 100 crore offer.”
The Chief Minister also highlighted a recent achievement: securing Income Tax exemptions for donations made to the university. This milestone is expected to encourage contributions from other sources while adhering to strict transparency norms.
The Adani Group’s pledged donation was part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. While appreciating the generous offer, the state government reiterated its stance on avoiding any association that could raise doubts about its integrity or intentions.
The Young India Skill University aims to enhance youth employability through skill-based education, and the state government remains committed to developing it with funds sourced transparently.
