Dhruv Rathee detained in Gurugram ahead of CJP protest in Delhi

New Delhi: Social media influencer Dhruv Rathee was reportedly detained from his Gurugram residence on Saturday, hours before a proposed protest by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.

According to a post on the CJP’s X handle, around 50 plain-clothed police personnel reached Rathee’s residence at about 8 a.m. and took him into custody. Gurugram Police were said to have carried out the action ahead of the planned demonstration.

Rathee had taken part in a protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bengaluru on Thursday. He was expected to join the CJP’s protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar later in the day.

The reported detention came as Delhi Police remained on high alert, with security intensified across the national capital ahead of the demonstration.

Vehicles entering Delhi are being checked at border points, while police personnel have been provided with body cameras to record any untoward incidents during the protest.

Security has also been increased around the residences of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi.

Drone surveillance has been launched at key locations, and several Metro stations, including Supreme Court and Mandi House, have been closed as part of the security arrangements.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Anant Mittal visited the Aya Nagar border to review the preparations. Police personnel were checking vehicles entering the capital to prevent unauthorised persons from reaching New Delhi.

“Regarding the call given by the CJP to protest in New Delhi, security arrangements have been made accordingly in Delhi and in the South district as well. Special security arrangements are in place at inter-state and inter-district borders. We are preventing unauthorised elements from entering New Delhi and checking them. Our effort is to ensure that everything remains peaceful and law and order is maintained,” Mittal told IANS.

At New Delhi Railway Station, drone surveillance is underway, with Delhi Police and Rapid Action Force personnel deployed across the premises. Security marches are also being conducted to monitor the situation.
