New Delhi: YouTuber Dhruv Rathee has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s latest video message on the ongoing student protests, asserting that the government’s assurances on tackling paper leaks repeat promises made during the 2024 NEET controversy without delivering results.
In an Instagram video post, Rathee said the student protests had compelled the Prime Minister to acknowledge the agitation through a video message. He alleged that Modi’s assurance that the government would bring a new law and take strict action against paper leaks amounted to “false promises”.
Sharing a clip from the Prime Minister’s recent selfie video, Rathee highlighted Modi’s statement: “From Monday, the second week of Parliament’s session will begin, and efforts will be made to get the Bill passed in the House as quickly as possible.”
Rathee questioned why the government was proposing a new law when, according to him, the Centre had already claimed to have a stringent legal framework in place during the 2024 NEET paper leak controversy.
Comparing the latest statement with Modi’s remarks in Parliament in 2024, Rathee shared a clip in which the Prime Minister had said, “The Central government has already enacted a stringent law. In the NEET case, arrests are being made continuously.”
“Who do you think you’re fooling?” Rathee asked, questioning the difference between the government’s earlier claims and its latest promise of new legislation.
He further questioned whether introducing another law would result in action against those allegedly responsible for paper leaks when, according to him, the existing law had failed to prevent such incidents.
Referring to the NEET paper leak case, Rathee also says in his video that the person earlier described as the mastermind was later said by the CBI to have no evidence against him. He questioned who was actually responsible for the leak if the earlier allegations could not be established.
Rathee argued that little had changed since the 2024 controversy and asserted that the government should first remove Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan if it wanted the public to believe its latest assurances.
