The court of Justice Amrita Sinha ordered a temporary stay till June 17 and ordered the police to submit a report on the investigation carried out so far before June 10. The court will hear the case again that day, Asian News International reported.
The court made the ruling after Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Sandeep Kumar Singh moved the high court, pleading to quash the investigation as well as the FIR against him.
Police said that three officers, including the OSD, were mentioned in the FIR for alleged restrain on the woman complainant on May 2.
On May 2, the woman alleged that the governor had molested her, and it was after that the Kolkata Police started the investigation. Article 361 of the Constitution gives immunity to governors against criminal proceedings during their term in office.
The officers, over whose name the complaint was registered, had acquired anticipatory bail from the chief metropolitan magistrate's court.
In the court of Justice Sinha, the lawyer of OSD Singh claimed that the allegations against him were improbable and that no case should have been registered on its basis. Also, the prosecution demanded not to quash the case and its proceedings and submitted that there is no hurry to pass an order restraining the police from continuing the probe.
