Bengaluru: A 27-year-old food delivery boy has been arrested by the Bengaluru police for allegedly sexually harassing a woman at a shopping mall during Christmas celebrations.
The accused has been identified as Manoj Chand, a native of Assam who works for an online food delivery platform. The incident occurred on December 25, when the mall was witnessing a heavy rush of visitors for the festivities.
According to a senior police officer, the woman was standing near a large Christmas tree inside the mall with her husband and child when the accused approached her. Allegedly under the influence of alcohol, Chand touched the woman inappropriately and attempted to flee the spot.
The survivor immediately raised an alarm, alerting her husband and police personnel who had been deployed at the venue for security amid the holiday crowd. The police swung into action and apprehended the accused before he could escape.
A case has been registered against Chand under Section 74 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and he has been placed under arrest.
