Pune: Police on Saturday arrested one of the accused in connection with the alleged suicide of a 28-year-old woman doctor in Maharashtra’s Satara district.
According to officials, a team from the Phaltan police nabbed Prashant Bankar, one of the two individuals named in the doctor’s suicide note, from Pune. The doctor, originally from Beed district and posted at a government hospital, was found hanging in a hotel room in Phaltan on Thursday night.
In a shocking revelation, she had written her suicide note on her palm, alleging that sub-inspector Gopal Badane had raped her multiple times, while Bankar, a software engineer, had mentally harassed her. Following the discovery, police registered a case of rape and abetment to suicide against both men.
“Accused Prashant Bankar has been arrested and brought to Phaltan. Further investigation is underway,” a police official said.
Investigators revealed that Bankar is the son of the landlord of the house where the doctor lived. Before taking the extreme step, she had reportedly spoken to him over the phone and exchanged messages, police added.
Sub-inspector Badane has been suspended from service after his name surfaced during the investigation, officials confirmed.
