Bihar man dies of heatstroke in Delhi hospital, fever hits 107 degrees

New Delhi: A 40-year-old man, who was rushed to Delhi's Ram Manohar Lohia hospital Monday night following heat stroke, died amid the spiraling heat-waves in the city.

A doctor said that the man, hailing from Bihar’s Darbhanga, was living in a room without cooler or fan and his body temperature breached the 107 degrees Celsius mark, which is 10 degrees above normal. This is the first heat-stroke death reported in Delhi this summer.

After the Mungeshpur weather station in the city recorded 52.9 degrees Celsius, the highest for any station in the country, authorities are probing if any sensor error occurred during reading.

Where 14 of the 20 monitoring stations in Delhi recorded a drop in temperature on Wednesday, Mungeshpur station’s reading remained an ‘outlier’, according to M Mohapatra, director general of India Meteorological Department.

Alongside the heat, several of parts of the city are facing a drinking water crisis.

Meanwhile, Delhi’s AAP government alleged that the Haryana government was denying Delhi its share of Yamuna water.

News agency ANI shared visuals of people jostling to collect water at a water tanker.

"The tanker comes daily, but we are getting half a tanker here for 3,000-4,000 people. It is so hot, we need water, but we are not getting enough of it," a local resident Vinay was quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, Delhi government requested people not to waste drinking water.

Delhi’s power demand rose up as air-conditioners ran overtime with people staying indoors most of the time.
