Maha family welcomes 1st girl child in 200 yrs; celebration!

Beed: A family in Maharashtra’s Beed district has celebrated the birth of a baby girl with an elaborate procession, marking what relatives described as a long-awaited arrival after nearly 200 years without a girl being born into the family.

The Dahifale family in Parli organised a grand welcome for newborn Gargi and her mother, Saubhagyavati Kalpana Rishikesh Dahiphale, after they were discharged from the hospital. A flower-decorated chariot was arranged to take the mother and baby home, while drums and cymbals accompanied the procession through the locality.

The unusual celebration drew the attention of residents, with the family treating the newborn like a princess as they marked what they regarded as a historic moment for their household.

According to the family, Gargi is the first girl born into the Dahifale family in around 200 years. Her grandfather, Limbaji Dahifale, originally from Kolwadi village in Ahmedpur taluka of Latur district, said the birth ended generations of disappointment over the absence of a daughter.

Gargi’s grandmother, Surekha Dahifale, also expressed the family’s happiness over the arrival of the newborn.

The baby’s father said the family considered the birth of a daughter uniquely joyful and planned to raise her with great affection and care.

Beyond the family celebration, the Dahifales said the procession was intended to convey a broader social message: the birth of a daughter should be regarded as a source of happiness and pride rather than treated as less significant than the birth of a son.

The celebration has since become a heartwarming example of a family turning a long-awaited birth into a community occasion.
