Hyderabad: India witnessed at least 63 documented incidents targeting Muslims, Christians and Dalits in July 2026, amounting to roughly two cases every day, according to a monthly tracker by Siasat.com. The incidents ranged from physical assaults and caste violence to religious discrimination, police misconduct and administrative actions, raising concerns over the growing normalisation of hostility against minority communities.
Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest concentration of reported cases. The state saw allegations of police torture, unlawful detention and violence alongside controversial administrative actions. Authorities ordered the demolition of 38 of 40 buildings at Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Rampur, while an Eidgah in Sambhal was also demolished. In Hapur, a Muslim driver and sole breadwinner reportedly died after being beaten by Kanwariyas. Elsewhere, Hindutva workers allegedly forced a man to kneel before a calf.
Telangana recorded nine incidents involving Muslims, Christians and Dalits. In Warangal, a Muslim government employee alleged that he was denied an apartment because of his religion.
The nationwide CJP-led protests over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations, particularly NEET UG, also became a backdrop for several alleged incidents of Islamophobia. Muslim volunteer Mohd Junaid, known for providing free food to protesters at Jantar Mantar, alleged police and Hindutva targeting, including a raid on his family home in Ghaziabad and the arrest of his father and detention of his minor brother. Muslim students returning to Jamia Millia Islamia University from the protest were also reportedly taken to a police station without explanation. A Muslim content creator at a CJP protest in Kolkata alleged that he was targeted with a hateful message and a pork-and-bacon cash-on-delivery order.
At least nine crimes against Dalits were documented. These included the alleged rape of a nine-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh, the rape of a 17-year-old Dalit girl allegedly by a Madhya Pradesh policeman, the slapping of a Dalit protester by Meerut SSP Avinash Pandey, and the killing of a Dalit youth in Kodaikanal. Two Dalit men in Madhya Pradesh were reportedly tied to a pole and subjected to electric shocks over allegations of stealing a water-pump motor.
Christians also faced attacks, with around five incidents recorded. Three occurred in West Bengal on July 5. A mob allegedly vandalised a church under construction in South 24 Parganas, damaging the altar, musical instruments and crosses. A Christian widow in Murshidabad was reportedly attacked and pressured to abandon her faith and surrender her property, while Grace Church in Purba Bardhaman was attacked during Sunday service.
The 63 incidents represent only those documented by Siasat.com, not the actual scale of hate crimes across India. The tracker said the trend since January indicates that such attacks are continuing to grow.
