Stop tarnishing AR Rahman's name: Saira Banu breaks silence on divorce

Mumbai: After announcing her separation from Oscar and Grammy-winning music composer AR Rahman, Saira Banu revealed that she had been "physically unwell for the last couple of months" and needed a break from him for health reasons. In a voice note shared by her lawyer, Vandana Shah, Saira spoke out about the ongoing allegations against AR Rahman, urging the public to stop spreading negative information about him.

In the voice message, Saira clarified that she trusts AR Rahman with her life and described him as “a gem of a person.” She expressed her disappointment over the negative comments circulating. She asked Tamil media and YouTubers to refrain from making disparaging remarks about her estranged husband, emphasizing that he is “the best man in the world.”

Saira further explained that her decision to leave Chennai was due to her health issues, and she had come to Mumbai for treatment. She stated that any conflict did not cause her separation from AR Rahman but was solely due to her health condition. Saira mentioned that she did not want to disturb anyone, including her children and AR Rahman, adding that despite his busy schedule, he had been supportive throughout.

Saira also requested the public to respect their privacy, clarifying that no official announcement had been made regarding their separation. She strongly urged people to stop spreading false allegations against AR Rahman, reaffirming her trust and love for him. Saira concluded by asking for space during this time of personal challenge.

On Tuesday, November 21, AR Rahman shared on social media that he and Saira had decided to separate after 29 years of marriage, stating that life had led them in different directions. The couple, married in 1995, have three children: daughters Khatija, Raheema, and son Ameen.
