New Delhi: Filmmaker Nila Madhab Panda's, internationally well-acclaimed film "Kalira Atita", which focuses on rising sea levels induced by climate change readies to hit the OTT platforms -MX Player and MUBI on September 3.
"Kalira Atita", meaning yesterday's past, is a story of Saatbhaya, a cluster of seven villages, in coastal Odisha that have been gobbled up by the rising sea.
The film discusses a very relevant topic as the recent Assessment Report of the Working Group I of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has warned of threats posed by sea-level rise for coastal areas among others.
Panda's earlier films were also socially relevant topics. He has produced and directed over 70 films, documentaries based on social issues such as climate change, child labour, education, water issues, sanitation and many other developmental issues in India.
His film, "Kadvee Hawa" focuses on how the poor farmers face the vagaries of nature while "Halkaa" talks about open defecation free India.
His first Odia language film "Kalira Atita" has won the national award for the Best Odia Film for 2019.
The film has already been screened at multiple international film festivals and is now heading for the 12th Annual Chicago South Asian Film Festival.
