Jailer 2 action director confirms Mohanlal did climax car scene himself

The action director of Jailer 2, Chethan D’Souza, has confirmed that Malayalam superstar Mohanlal personally performed the car sequence in the film’s climax, addressing speculation that a body double was used in the scene.

The clarification comes amid criticism from fans over Mohanlal’s limited screen presence in the Rajinikanth-starrer. Earlier, mimicry artiste Joby Kodakara claimed that he had doubled for the actor in some portions of the film, fuelling concerns that Mohanlal’s appearances may have been reduced further in the final edit.

The issue resurfaced when a fan questioned D’Souza about the climax car sequence in the comments section of an Instagram post. The action director confirmed Mohanlal’s involvement in the scene but did not address questions about why the actor’s introduction had reportedly been shortened.

Fans have also expressed disappointment over scenes featuring Mohanlal that appeared in the film’s promotional material but were missing from the theatrical version. The makers have yet to publicly clarify the reported cuts.

Meanwhile, a photograph from the film’s climax shoot has circulated on social media, showing Rajinikanth alongside several prominent actors associated with the project. The picture appears to have been taken during a visit to the set by Telugu actor Mohan Babu, a longtime friend of Rajinikanth. Mohanlal, Kannada star Shivarajkumar, Jackie Shroff and SJ Suryah are also seen in the photograph.

Despite the debate surrounding Mohanlal’s screen time, Jailer 2 has performed strongly at the box office. The film has reportedly collected Rs 424.25 crore worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Tamil release of 2026 so far, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

It has also surpassed the reported worldwide collection of Vijay’s Jana Nayagan, which stands at Rs 324.68 crore.
