Sanju Samson books entire theatre to watch Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2

Indian cricketer Sanju Samson has demonstrated his admiration for Tamil superstar Rajinikanth by booking an entire cinema hall to watch Jailer 2 with his family, friends and teammates, as the action drama continues its impressive box-office run.

Speaking to NDTV, Samson spoke warmly of his enduring affection for the veteran actor’s films, admitting that he had watched the latest release a day later than intended because of an event in Delhi. He explained that he always looked forward to Rajinikanth’s next film and tried to watch as many of his movies as possible.

The cricketer said he had invited his wife, friends and members of the Indian team, including support staff who understood Tamil, to join him for the special screening, and expressed his excitement at watching the superstar on the big screen.

Meanwhile, Jailer 2 has attracted attention over Malayalam actor Mohanlal’s reportedly limited screen time, while rumours concerning his appearance in the climax have prompted clarification from the film’s action director, Chethan D’Souza. Responding to a fan’s question on Instagram about whether Mohanlal had performed the car sequence himself or used a body double, Chethan replied, “Its him,” dismissing speculation that another performer had substituted for the actor.

The controversy gained momentum after mimicry artiste Joby Kodakara claimed that he had acted as Mohanlal’s body double in certain portions of the film.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer features Rajinikanth reprising his role as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, alongside an ensemble cast including SJ Suryah, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Shivarajkumar, Mohanlal and Jackie Shroff. Produced by Sun Pictures, the film is poised to cross the ₹500-crore mark, further strengthening its commercial success.
