Akshay Kumar takes responsibility for his films failing

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar said that it is his fault that his films are not working. "I have to make changes and understand what the audience wants."

His last three films 'Bachchhan Paandey', 'Samrat Prithviraj' and 'Raksha Bandhan' did not please the audience. Raksha Bandhan was Akshay Kumar's biggest flop of the year. But, Samrat Prithviraj performed very poorly when compared with its massive budget. The film was also tax-free in some BJP-ruled states.

His new film Cuttputtli has now opted for an OTT release. The team of the film was in Mumbai for the trailer launch. Yaariyan fame actress Rakul Preet Singh is starring opposite Akshay Kumar.

Cuttputtli is a crime thriller based on real-life serial killer Anatoly Yemelianovich Slivko from the erstwhile Soviet Union.

Speaking at the event, he said: "I want to make the changes, I will dismantle my ways, the way I think, and the kind of movies I do. Nobody else is to be blamed, it is just me." He added that OTT is not a safe space for movies because the content released on it also requires the approval of the audience.

"OTT is not a safe space. Digital space also requires people to say 'yes' to the content. It is not a safety net. The film releases the same way it releases everywhere. The audience, critics, and media watch the film on the net. And they give their feedback too. So forget about being safe. It would help if you work hard and that is it," said the actor.

Producer Jackky Bhagnani said the film was designed to release on OTT and the team knew it from the beginning. "Since the inception of the film, we have known this is a great genre. We wanted to put this story out in the best way. And Disney is the best platform for this movie."

He added there was no confusion about the release and clarified that the film was not meant to release in theatres.

The film will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on September 2.
