I'll never play Akshay Kumar's mother again, says Shefali Shah

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Shefali Shah, known for her versatile on-screen roles, recently discussed the existing hierarchy in the film industry.

In response to a question by The Indian Express about hierarchy on film sets, the Delhi Crime star candidly expressed her experiences, emphasising that she has had the pleasure of working with remarkable individuals, both in front of and behind the camera.

She asserted, "Honestly, I will tell you, I have had the pleasure of working with incredible people, and I am not saying it because it is politically correct. I mean it. I had probably worked with one director or one actor who was extremely offensive. Besides that, I have worked with directors who think actors are not just actors; they are collaborators."

However, Shefali Shah playfully added, "I promise I will never play Akshay Kumar's mother ever again in my life."

For context, Shefali Shah had portrayed the role of Akshay Kumar's mother in the film "Waqt: The Race Against Time," which also featured Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra in leading roles.

In a previous interview with News 18, Shefali Shah recalled a personal experience of encountering street harassment during her younger days. She acknowledged that most women have faced such situations and recounted an incident from her school days when she was returning from the market.

She said, "I remember when I was really young, and in the market, coming back from school, I faced it. And I couldn't do anything about it. I was too young, and I was just scared, and no one stood up. I mean, it was crowded, but that's not a justification. I guess almost all women have dealt with it."

Shefali Shah, who has been nominated in the Best Actress category for her role in the Netflix drama series "Delhi Crime 2" at The International Emmy Awards 2023, believes that raising her two sons to be responsible and sensitive individuals is essential to creating a society where everyone is safe, respected, and free from harassment.

Shefali Shah's acting repertoire includes notable performances in films like "Satya," "Monsoon Wedding," "Dil Dhadakne Do," "Ajeeb Daastaans," "Jalsa," "Darlings," and many more.
