Prayer assistance in Ramadan: Algeria to send imams to Italy, France
text_fieldsRome: The Algerian government has decided to send 29 imams to Italy to assist local imams in conducting Taraweeh prayers in the holy month of Ramadan, reports Arab News.
The Algerian administration’s move was after a specific request from Italian authorities, Algerian Religious Affairs Minister Youssef Belmehdi informed via state radio.
The minister said that the administration would also send 128 imams to France. He added that Germany and Belgium also made similar requests.
Arab News learnt from a source from Italy’s Interior Ministry that the country made such a request to give good spiritual care to all Muslims there during the month of Ramadan. According to the source, the Algerian administration was enthusiastic about accepting the request.
A Catholic priest, Giuseppe Ciutti, told Arab News that everyone deserves to get good spiritual assistance at an important time like Ramadan, a Muslim holy month.
As per the data of the Union of Islamic Communities in Italy, 2.5 million Muslims reside in the country. They comprise 4.7 per cent of the total population. Moroccans are the largest Muslim community in Italy, Arab News reports.
