‘India belonged to England’: UK man racially abuses Indian-origin woman
text_fieldsNew Delhi: An Indian-origin woman travelling on a train in London faced vicious racial abuse from a fellow passenger, Metro reported.
Gabrielle Forsyth was heading from London to Manchester on Sunday when she unexpectedly faced hate.
She was discussing her work with charity supporting immigrants when a passenger overhead the conversation.
The man who was apparently drunk shouted: ‘You are in cahoots with current immigrants. You’re in England, you are claiming something. You would not be in England if you weren’t claiming something’.
Forsyth shared the video on X and later deleted but it eventually got circulated on social media.
Footage also showed the man recording just as he ranted about immigrants and immigration policies, according to The Indian Express.
As the man continued the tirade, his companion, a woman, was seen covering her face.
The man can be heard saying: ‘You’re in England, you are claiming something. You would not be in England if you weren’t claiming something. English people conquered the world and gave it back to you. We conquered India, we didn’t want it, we gave it back to you’.
He continued ‘India belong to England and we gave it back. We did not want it.’
Many responded to the video with one user saying ‘Bro has got deep burns with India’s 3-0 win over England’.
Another user commented: ‘If Britain were to return what they stole, it would be 13 to 15 times their entire economy. You poor presents you whole future is coz what you stole from us!’
Following the depressing incident, she wrote in a post: ‘Being Indian, being the daughter of an immigrant, being in touch with my history and heritage is a blessing and a gift and I am grateful every day to have the ability to stand up for myself and for people of colour. I back myself and us all to the hilt.’
‘Also I just want to say you could never make me ashamed of being brown. I will never be ashamed of my heritage, and I will never be afraid of Nazis or bigots. Call me whatever, threaten me with whatever. I’m not going anywhere and you can die mad about it, Forsyth added.
