Elon Musk spent $270 million on Trump's victorious poll campaign
text_fieldsWashington: To bring Donald Trump back to the President’s seat in the US, billionaire Elon Musk has spent at least $270 million, new federal filings suggested. Thus, the Tesla and SpaceX owners became the biggest political donors in the country, Agence France-Presse reported.
Musk, the richest person in the world, funnelled funds for Trump’s presidential campaign through his door-knocking operations. He also spoke at Trump’s rallies.
The data from the nonprofit OpenSecrets suggested that Musk’s financial backing of Trump surpassed spending by any single political donor since at least 2010. Musk’s role in taking Trump to victory earned him a position as a cost-cutting advisor and chief of Trump’s DOGE.
According to The Washington Post, Musk spent more than Tim Mellon, another supporter of Trump, nearly $200 million. Mellon was previously the top donor for Trump’s.
The filing with the Federal Election Commission suggested that Musk donated $238 million to America PAC, the political action committee that was founded to support Trump. Further, an additional $20 million was donated to RGB PAC, which used advertising to soften Trump’s hardline reputation on the important voter issue of abortion.
Musk had been with Trump since his victory in November, and he invited the president-elect to watch a rocket launch in Texas by his company, SpaceX.
Trump selected Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to head the proposed government department Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE. Musk and Ramaswamy promised that the department would deliver billions of dollars of cuts in federal spending.
Trump also nominated several people close to Musk for roles in his administration, like investor David Sacks, who was appointed as the ‘AI and crypto czar’. Also, billionaire astronaut Jared Isaacman was named the head of the US space agency NASA. Isaacman has collaborated with Musk’s SpaceX.
