California: The social media platform X has removed several hundred Hamas-affiliated accounts as the impassioned rants in the wake of Israel-Palestine war take over internet.

The social media platform's CEO, Linda Yaccarino said that ‘there is no place on X for terrorist organisations or violent extremists groups', News agency ANI reported.

Yaccarino added that X will ‘continue to remove such accounts in real time, including proactive groups.’

‘X is committed to serving the public conversation, especially in critical moments like this and understands the importance of addressing any illegal content that may be disseminated through the platform,’ she said.

The action comes after European Union industry chief Thierry Breton issued a 24-hour ultimatum to Elon Musk to combat disinformation happening on X.

As well as urging X to abide by the new EU online content norms, Breton expressed concern over the alleged distribution of illegal content and disinformation happening on X within European Union.

EU's Digital Services Act (DSA) seeks social media platforms including X and Meta's Facebook to take ‘more proactive measures’ to delete illegal content alongside urging them to address threats to ‘public security and civic discourse’.

Yaccarion shot off a letter to Breton expressing willingness to further engage with the EU as well as holding a meeting to address specific concerns.

X reportedly responded to EU’s 80 takedown requests within the given time and it said it received no notice regarding illegal content.

Thierry Breton on October 9 issued similar ultimatum to Meta as well, seeking details of action it had taken to combat disinformation happening on its platforms in the wake of Israel attack.
