UDF makes gains in the state; inroads into LDF strongholds

Thiruvananthapuram: In the local body elections held across the state, the United Democratic Front (UDF) has made notable gains. The UDF is leading with a clear advantage in corporations, municipalities and district panchayats. It has also managed to make inroads into several traditional strongholds of the Left Democratic Front (LDF).
The UDF is leading in the Thrissur and Ernakulam corporations, which it had lost in the previous elections. The National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) key achievement has been its lead in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. The LDF’s advances, meanwhile, have largely been confined to gram panchayats and block panchayats.
