Kottayam: Five third-year nursing students have been arrested in Kerala’s Kottayam for subjecting their juniors to horrific ragging.
Three first-year students of Government Nursing College in Kottayam filed a complaint with the Kottayam Gandhinagar police describing how their seniors tortured them.

The violence on junior students reportedly began in November 2024 continued for nearly three months.
Following the complaint, the accused students were suspended and arrested under Anti-Ragging Act.
It is reported citing police that the first-year-students were forced to take off their clothes; afterwards, the seniors hung dumbbells from their private parts. The juniors sustained injuries from sharp objects such as compass from geometry box.
Seniors allegedly applied lotion to the wounds on freshers and as they screamed with pain, the lotion was smeared into their mouths.
Alongside filming these cruel acts, the seniors allegedly threatened juniors with consequence like harming their academic future if they reported the abuse.
The victims complained that the seniors used to extort money from them on Sundays to buy alcohol. Those refused to hand the money would be beaten.
Unable to bear the torture, one student informed his father and subsequently approached the police.
The five accused, who are in police custody, are expected to be produced before magistrate on Wednesday.
Only a fortnight before the mother of a 15-year-old school boy in Kochi said her son committed suicide following bullying by students.
