Thiruvananthapuram: Seeking to nurture entrepreneurial skills among school students and support their innovative ideas, Kerala Vocational Higher Secondary Education is organising 'Innovation Day' in its schools across the state on August 25.

Over 66,000 students are expected to participate in the Innovation Day, to be held in 389 VHSE schools in the state, department sources said.

The programme is being implemented with the support of the Startup Mission, a state-run platform to provide support for budding entrepreneurs.

State VHSE director K P Naufal said it is for the first time in the state that a government department is coming up offering a platform for students to share their entrepreneurial dreams and ideas.

"Our aim is not just to give a platform for students to share their ideas but also to introduce them to the immense possibilities of the world of innovations," he said.

The class rooms in VHSE schools would be converted into over 2200 'spark rooms', where video presentations and discussions on the inventions by students would be held.

"We expect that students will come out with applications and equipment which will be useful in the social and individual life," the official said.

Over Rs 3.5 lakh prize money would be given to students, who come up with best innovative ideas, VHSE sources added.
