Vandalism in UP: BR Ambedkar statue found damaged
text_fieldsUttar Pradesh: A statue of BR Ambedkar was found damaged in Rikhipurwa village of Hargaon area on Friday morning. Locals spotted the issue and informed the police. The miscreants are not yet identified.
The incident likely took place in the early hours of the day.
Senior cops arrived at the spot and assured the locals that action will be taken against those involved in the vandalism. Additional Superintendent of Police Rajiv Dixit said the attack took place in the dark. "The suspects damaged the statue in the dark and fled the scene."
He added that a case has been lodged against unidentified people and an investigation has started. "The accused will be arrested soon." The district officials have assured that the locals will receive support in replacing the damaged statue.
This is not the first time a BR Ambedkar statue has been vandalised. A week ago, Naiplapur in Sikandra witnessed a similar incident. On May 25, two BR Ambedkar statues were found damaged in Meerut. Chhijarsi village in Noida also saw a similar incident.
BR Ambedkar is known for drafting the Constitution of India and inspiring the Dalit Buddhist movement after renouncing Hinduism.
