Uttar Pradesh: Muslim gets killed after complaining against tax officer
text_fieldsAgra: A Muslim transport businessman was found dead under suspicious circumstances outside his warehouse in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra, with his family alleging a chilling conspiracy involving state tax officials and sustained harassment before his death, Siasat reported.
The deceased, Asgar Ali, had set out for Jaipur on April 3 with his driver when their vehicle was stopped near the Korai toll by state tax officer Reshu Tripathi. Despite producing the mandatory e-way bill, Ali was allegedly detained while his driver and truck were sent back to the tax office in Agra, according to the FIR filed by his son, Abdul Ali.
What followed, the family claims, was a night of fear and silence. Abdul said his father called to say he felt threatened and in danger after being stopped. Repeated attempts to contact him through the night failed. Hours later, at around 5 am, the family received a call from police: Ali’s body had been found lying near his warehouse.
Police have maintained that Ali was hit by an unidentified vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. He was rushed to SN Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. A post-mortem was conducted by a panel of three doctors, and investigations are ongoing.
However, the family has strongly contested the accident claim, alleging a pattern of intimidation and extortion. Abdul stated that his father had earlier filed a complaint against tax officer Nivedita Singh for harassment and illegal demands—an investigation that remains pending. He further alleged that Singh, along with her husband Ajay Pal Yadav, repeatedly threatened Ali through intermediaries, warning of “dire consequences” if the complaint was not withdrawn.
Despite naming Tripathi, Singh and Yadav in the complaint, police registered the FIR against unknown persons under Section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, dealing with death by negligence.
Police officials said the case is being probed under relevant sections and confirmed that Agra’s Police Commissioner met the victim’s family, even as allegations of a targeted killing continue to intensify.
