New Delhi: Congress commemorated the 107th birth anniversary of India’s first woman Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, on Tuesday. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and party President Mallikarjun Kharge paid their respects at ‘Shakti Sthal,’ Indira Gandhi’s memorial in New Delhi.

Reflecting on her legacy, Rahul Gandhi emphasized her impact on his life, describing her as a symbol of courage and love. He noted that her teachings instilled in him the strength to walk fearlessly on the path of national interest and said her memories continue to guide him.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra highlighted Indira Gandhi’s special bond with India’s tribal communities, recalling how she began her election campaigns from Nandurbar in Maharashtra. Priyanka observed that Indira Gandhi regarded tribal culture as unique for its respect and protection of nature and implemented key laws during her tenure to empower tribal societies. She added that Indira Gandhi’s policies uplifted the marginalized sections of society, including tribals, Dalits, and the poor.

Priyanka also linked the Congress party’s current agenda to Indira Gandhi’s vision, mentioning demands for a caste-based census and an increased reservation cap for SC/ST/OBC communities, aligning with her ideals of service and social justice.

The Congress party described Indira Gandhi as a transformative leader whose strength and resilience propelled India forward. The party’s official message underlined her patriotism and devotion to the nation as a continuing source of inspiration.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also paid homage, calling Indira Gandhi the 'Iron Lady of India' and a lifelong symbol of courage and dynamic leadership. He remarked that her sacrifices, including laying down her life to uphold India’s unity and integrity, remain a guiding light for millions.
