Sonamarg: To Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s demand to restore the statehood of the region as promised, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a vague response that he would fulfil the promises he had made to the people there. Modi inaugurated the Z Morh tunnel in Kashmir on Monday, and Abdullah welcomed him to the event.

Omar Abdullah reminded that the PM had said that statehood would be restored before the assembly elections in September last year, and he believed in his heart that Modi would soon fulfil this promise.

PM Modi said that everything has its time and the right things will happen at the right time.

"I live up to my promises. I will fulfil every promise; everything has time, and it’ll be fulfilled," Times Now quotedPM.

There is an atmosphere of peace in Jammu and Kashmir, which is evident in its tourism sector, he claimed. He added that Kashmir is writing a new legend of development.

Omar Abdullah said that it would be a great honour for the prime minister to inaugurate two important projects in Jammu and Kashmir in 15 days. Last week, Modi virtually inaugurated the Jammu Railway Division.

In October last year, in the first cabinet meeting of Abdullah’s new government in the Union territory, a resolution was passed demanding the Centre to reinstate the region’s statehood. Also, before being sworn in as the CM of the UT, Abdullah had vowed that the first task of his government would be to become the voice of the people and reinstate the statehood of the erstwhile state.
