Nearly 97 crore eligible voters for upcoming Lok Sabha elections: EC

New Delhi: The Election Commission declared on Friday that nearly 97 crore Indians will be eligible to cast their votes in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled for this year.
Additionally, the Commission reported that over two crore young electors, aged between 18 to 29 years, have been incorporated into the voters' list.
Compared to the last Lok Sabha polls held in 2019, there has been a significant 6% increase in the number of registered voters.
The Election Commission highlighted that India currently holds the distinction of having the world's largest electorate, with 96.88 crore individuals registered to vote in the forthcoming General Elections.
Furthermore, the gender ratio has seen a positive shift from 940 in 2023 to 948 in 2024, according to the poll panel's statement. The Commission emphasised its commitment to ensuring the purity and health of the electoral roll, focusing on transparency and disclosures during the revision process.
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar provided insights into the revision of electoral rolls, underscoring the involvement of political parties at every stage. This commitment to transparency and inclusivity aims to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
