Minibus falls into gorge in Uttarakhand: at least 10 die
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Following a deadly accident in Uttarakhand where a tempo traveller carrying 23 passengers fell into a gorge, at least ten people got killed on Saturday, NDTV reported.
The unfortunate incident happened on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway near Raitoli in the Rudraprayag district of the state, where the tempo traveller fell into the Alakananda River. Uttarakhand has dispatched a State Disaster Response Force to the spot, and it is working with the police in rescue operations.
Sources told NDTV that people who were standing on the side got injured in the accident.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami called the incident "very sad news". He said that the state ordered the district magistrate to probe the incident.
He posted on Twitter in Hindi that he prays to god to grant the deceased a place in his feet and provide strength to their bereaved families. He added that he prays to Baba Kedar for the speedy recovery of the injured.
NDTV learned from officials that the injured were being airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh.
It was only last week a pilgrims' bus fell into a gorge in Jammu & Kashmir's Reasi district after terrorists opened fire at it. The attack and ensuing accident killed nine pilgrims and injured 33. the pilgrims were heading to Shiv Khori temple to Katra, and the incident took place around 6.15 pm near Teryath village in the Poni area.
The attack marked a significant escalation in violence in the region. Reasi district has been relatively untouched by terrorist activities compared to neighbouring areas such as Rajouri and Poonch.
The Congress had condemned the gruesome terror attack on the bus and said the incident reflects the true picture of the worrying security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
