Let Delhi govt run its departments, says AAP leader to Governor
text_fieldsAAP leader Atishi asked Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena to allow the Delhi government to run the departments under its purview and not disrupt the constitutional framework.
She added that Saxena called a meeting of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) officials and gave instructions. The DJP falls under the authority of the Delhi government. The senior AAP leader told the media that the Governor may not have been aware of the constitutional provisions because he is new to the role.
Land, law and order, police, and now with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) also being unified and brought under the Centre, it will be his responsibilities since he is a representative of the Centre. But education, electricity, and water are subjects that come under the Delhi government, clarified the AAP leader.
Atishi also alleged that the new Governor is attacking Delhi's constitutional sanctity by coercing the Kejriwal government's officers to work on his directions. She noted that if such actions continue, there will be chaos, and residents of the capital city will have to pay the price.
She questioned how Delhi can be governed effectively if officers are receiving two sets of directions. "Whose orders will these officers follow?"
"If Delhi's constitutional arrangement is besmirched or meddled with, then it will lead to absolute chaos all over the national capital. Effective governance will cease to exist in Delhi, and innocent residents will have to pay the price for the resultant state of disorder," said the AAP representative.
She urged the Governor to deal with the subjects under him - cleanliness and poor waste management. "No locality is properly cleaned due to MCD's incompetence over the past 15 years. It is my humble request to LG to focus on improving Delhi's law and order situation, women's safety issues, sanitation, and disposal of landfills." Atishi added that the Governor must solve these problems if he wants to help the people of Delhi.
