New Delhi: A Delhi court has summoned filmmaker Leena Manimekalai on a petition that sought an injunction over her upcoming movie "Kaali" for the alleged depiction of a Hindu goddess in an objectionable way in its promotions, PTI reported.

The bench of Judge Abhishek Kumar pronounced that Manimekalai needed to be heard before passing any order and asked her to appear before the court on August 6.

The judge said, "Undersigned (judge) is of the opinion that the defendant needs to be heard before passing any order against them. Therefore, issue summons of the suit and notice of the injunction application…"

The petition, which sought a permanent mandatory injunction against the filmmaker, alleged that the accused depicted the Hindu goddess in an objectionable way in the poster and promo video of their upcoming Movie "Kaali".

It claimed, "Further, the poster of the film depicts Hindu goddess Kali smoking cigarette which not only hurts the religious sentiments of common Hindu but is also against basics of morality and decency."

According to the plea filed by Raj Gaurav, the poster was tweeted by Manimekalai's Twitter handle. It sought an interim injunction restraining the filmmaker temporarily from depicting goddesses in the way they have been shown in the poster, video and tweet.
