India still under COVID grip with 3, 29,942 new cases, 3,800 deaths
text_fieldsNew Delhi: As much as 3, 29,942 new COVID cases recorded in the last 24 hours have contributed to taking India's total COVID cases to 2, 29, 92,517.
With over 3,800 deaths in the same period, the total deaths induced by the COVID rose to 2, 49,992 while the active cases are at 37, 15,221.
Karnataka reported the highest number of Covid cases in the country, pushing Maharashtra to the second spot.
Meanwhile, World Health Organization has labelled the Covid-19 variant spreading in India, as a "variant of concern", on Monday. The UN health agency said the B.1.617 variant of Covid-19 first found in India last October seemed to be transmitting more easily.
In addition, US top medical expert Anthony Fauci has once again suggested a complete lockdown in India to stop the violent spread of Covid-19 in the country. Taking into account the surge in daily cases and the number of deaths, Fauci has suggested India must go into lockdown and vaccinate the entire population at the earliest.
