COVID-19: India reports 46,759 covid cases, 509 deaths
text_fieldsIndia's daily Covid numbers jumped by over four per cent as the country reported 46,759 new cases on Saturday, the most in nearly two months. 509 deaths were recorded during the past 24 hours, according to the government.
Five states accounted for 89.42 per cent of the total cases, with Kerala contributing 32,801 cases in the past 24 hours, followed by Maharashtra with 4,654 cases, Tamil Nadu with 1,542 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 1,512 cases and Karnataka with 1,301 cases.
Kerala has been reporting over 30,000 cases for three days now. Kerala's positivity rate currently stands at 19.22 per cent, an increase from 18.03 on August 26.
Maharashtra, the state with the highest overall caseload, reported 4,654 new infections and 170 fatalities in 24 hours. Maharashtra's Covid recovery rate stands at 97.02 per cent, while the fatality rate is 2.12 per cent.
Amid a spurt in Covid-19 cases, India achieved a new milestone by administering the highest doses of vaccination. Over one crore does of Covid-19 vaccine were given in one day for the first time on August 27, according to the data from Union Health Ministry. A total of 1,00,64, 032 doses of vaccine were administered on Friday. Uttar Pradesh administered the most number of doses among all states at 28.62 lakh on August 27.
India's daily positivity rate remains less than 3 per cent for the last 28 days and is presently at 2.19 per cent. Active cases constitute 1.10% of total cases, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate stands 97.56 per cent, the Union Health Ministry said.
