New Delhi: The Union Health Ministry update on Thursday stated that India recorded 3,17,532 fresh Covid-19 cases in a single day, which is the top tally in 249 days. The cumulative caseload of the country reached 3,82,18,773, and 9,287 of them were Omicron infections, PTI reported.

The active caseload reached 19,24,051, which is the highest tally in 234 days, and the death toll reached 4,81,693, with 491 were added in 24 hours. The rate of increase in Omicron cases was 3.63. Active cases constitute 5.03 per cent of the total infections. The national pandemic recovery rate dropped and reached 93.09 per cent. In the last 24 hours, the active case pool had an increase of 93,051 numbers.

However, experts opined that Omicron is causing the current wave in the country, but genome sequencing every single sample is impossible.

Meanwhile, India's 50% of eligible teenagers got their first dose of vaccination on Tuesday, The Indian Express reported. Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted that the news is encouraging, young is showing people the way, and this momentum needs to be kept. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had said that teenagers' enthusiasm to get immunized is inspiring people across India. India administered 1,59,67,55,879 doses as of 8 am on Thursday, having jabbed 73,38,592 the day before.

India's covid caseload reached the 20 lakh mark on August 7, 2020. It arrived at one crore on December 19 that year and two and three crores on May 4 and June 23, 2021, respectively.
