Gandhinagar/ Gujarat: Gujarat cadre IAS officer Ranjeet Kumar’s estranged wife, Surya Jay, died by suicide on Sunday, NDTV reported.

Surya had reportedly eloped with a gangster, known by the name Maharaja High Court, nine months before.

The On Saturday, the 45-year-old woman returned to her IAS husband's home in Gujarat.

She tried to kill herself when she was denied entry to the house and succumbed during treatment at a hospital a day later, according to the report.

Ranjeet Kumar, who is a secretary at Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission, had reportedly instructed the domestic staff not to allow her in the house.

She was involved in the kidnapping case of a 14-year-old boy in Madurai, Tamil Nadu.

Surya is thought to have gone to her husband’s home to evade arrest from Tamil Nadu police.

Kumar's advocate, Hitesh Gupta reportedly said the couple, separated in 2023, were heading for a divorce.

‘Ranjeet Kumar had gone out to finalise his divorce petition with Surya on Saturday. Upset at not being allowed in the house, she ingested poison and called up 108 (an ambulance helpline number),’ police said reportedly.

The cops recovered a suicide note in Tamil, however, refused to give details.

The case against her, involving the gangster and his aide Senthil Kumar, relates to an alleged kidnapping of a boy on July 11 over a monetary dispute with the child's mother.

They had demanded a ransom of ₹ 2 crore but the Madurai police rescued the boy.

The police had started a manhunt for all those involved in the case including Surya.

IAS officer Ranjeet Kumar has refused to take her body.
