Srinagar: A South Kashmiri youngster has achieved a remarkable honour by standing out among the top 10 candidates in the National Eligibility Cumulation Entrance Test (NEET) 2022 as the lone Muslim.

In NEET 2022, Haziq Pervaiz Lone of Tranz Shopian earned the 10th spot. Haziq scored 710 points, placing him seventh overall among men. The NEET winner in Jammu & Kashmir is Haziq as well.

"I was hopeful to crack the NEET, but getting 10th rank was beyond my expectation. I couldn't believe that I am among the top 10 toppers. I am thankful to Almighty Allah for bestowing me with success. My success wouldn't have been possible without the support and efforts of parents and teachers of Aakash Institute Srinagar, especially Rohin Jain who taught us physics," he told a local news agency.

A student of Government Higher Secondary School, Turkwangam, Shopian, he wants to become a neurologist. "My dream was to become a doctor which is now going to come true. I will choose the neurology branch and become a neurologist," he said.

On July 17, 2022, the National Testing Agency (NTA) administered the National Eligibility cumulative Entrance Test (UG) to 1872343 candidates at 3570 different centres spread over 497 cities around the nation, including 14 cities outside of India.

The test was given in 13 different languages (Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu). Abu Dhabi, Bangkok, Colombo, Doha, Kathmandu, Kuala Lumpur, Lagos, Manama, Muscat, Riyadh, Sharjah, Singapore, Dubai, and Kuwait City also held the exam for the first time.

In Kollam, Sriganganagar, Nagaur, Kushinagar, Bhind, Hoshangad, Begusarai, and Thane, retests were given to the afflicted candidates. The only languages used for the exam were Hindi and English, India tomorrow reported.

"NTA is pleased to declare the result of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (UG) – 2022 on 7 September 2022. The result of NEET (UG) – 2022 may be utilized by other entities of Central/State Governments for admission purposes in accordance with their rules. The responsibility of NTA is to conduct the examination and declare the result based on eligibility criteria provided by NMC," NTA said.

Candidates submitted their category as per National Category List. "Based on the same the result has been declared. NTA has provided All India Rank to the candidates and the admitting Authorities will draw a merit list based on All India Rank for the seats of MBBS/BDS falling under their jurisdiction. When candidates apply to their State, they will mention their category as per State Category List. State Counselling Authorities will accordingly make their Merit List. The same is the case with the domicile. The NTA has no role in it," NTA said.
