Delhi police file 6 FIRs for vandalism for 'larger conspiracy’ during CJP protest

New Delhi: Delhi Police have registered six First Information Reports (FIRs) in connection with the alleged violence, vandalism and other incidents that took place during the "Chalo Sansad" march organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and farmers' groups on July 20, police sources said on Tuesday.
According to the sources, investigators are examining the possibility of a larger criminal conspiracy behind the incidents. The FIRs have been registered at Parliament Street, Connaught Place and other police stations under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Arms Act and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
Police sources said one FIR relates to the alleged violence and stone-pelting near Regal Cinema in Connaught Place, while other cases involve allegations of unlawful assembly, the unauthorised use of a drone during the Parliament session and an alleged conspiracy behind the violence. Additional FIRs have also been registered over allegations of assault, taking the law into one's own hands and other related offences.
According to the police, the FIR registered at Parliament Street Police Station includes charges under several sections of the BNS relating to disobedience of lawful orders, obstruction of public servants, assault on public officials, unlawful assembly, rioting, violence, common intention and criminal conspiracy. Provisions of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act have also been invoked.
The FIR alleges that the accused formed an unlawful assembly, disrupted public order, obstructed government officials from carrying out their duties, engaged in violence and caused damage to public property.
Police further alleged that some protesters pelted stones at security personnel and damaged several police vehicles deployed in the area. Investigators said they were examining CCTV footage, drone recordings, mobile phone videos and other electronic evidence to identify those allegedly involved. Social media posts and other digital material are also being analysed as part of the investigation.
According to police sources, the FIR concerning the alleged conspiracy was registered after investigators claimed to have gathered evidence suggesting prior planning behind the unrest.
In a separate case involving the alleged unauthorised operation of a drone in New Delhi during the Parliament session, Delhi Police said they were verifying the authenticity of the footage and examining whether any drone regulations had been violated.
Following Monday's clashes, security has been tightened across the national capital. Delhi Police said more than 118 personnel were injured and over 20 police vehicles were damaged during the violence, according to reports.
Authorities have erected multi-layered barricades at key locations, intensified vehicle checks and deployed additional police and paramilitary personnel at sensitive areas, major intersections and important government installations. A senior police officer said further action would be taken after the investigation is completed.
