Delhi Police raid at Adv Pracha's office; Opposition MPs write letter to PM Modi demanding strict action
text_fieldsOpposition MPs wrote joint letter on Monday to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the raid and seizure conducted by Delhi Police at Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Mehmood Pracha's office. The signitories of the joint letter include MPs from CPIM, CPI, Congress, DMK and RJD.
According to the letter "Mehmood Pracha is representing a number of cases of communal violence victims and other cases involving members of the ruling party at the Centre"
The letter says that "the purpose of the raid was to access computers which had files of many of these sensitive cases".
The letter pointed out that the action of Delhi set "a shocking precedent"
"If a lawyer is representing cases not to the liking of the Government, has the police the right to raid the lawyer's office and break a primary principle of justice which is the confidentiality between a lawyer and the client?", the letter asked
The letter demanded to give out a strong message to the Delhi police and across the country that "such law less behavior will not be tolerated".
The letter also urged the PM to take strict action against those responsible.
Pracha's office was raided by the Special Cell of Delhi police On December 24, 2020, which began at 12 noon and went on till 3 am the next morning.
