Centre issues 'Y' category security for 'Kashmir Files' maker

New Delhi: The Union government has issued 'Y' category security to the director of recently released "The Kashmir Files", Vivek Agnihotri, with CRPF cover all over India, NDTV reported citing government sources' statement to news agency ANI.

The film, which portrayed Kashmiri Hindus being driven from their homeland under militancy in the '90s, has received "unprecedented backing" from the Modi government in the Centre, NDTV says.

The movie is reportedly racing towards a Rs 100 crore box office collection after the immense support by BJP's Centre as well as many BJP state governments, who had pronounced the movie tax free in respective states, which gathered criticism proportionally. The film is criticized for deliberate misrepresentation and bending of facts, while the Centre is accused of spreading propaganda through its support.

The movie was faced sloganeering on many screens, and critics suggested that it created more hatred against certain communities instead of healing past wounds. At places, some from the audience were seen using abusive and provocative language against Muslims.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had utilized the movie to slam his political opponents as well as critics. He alleged that those who stand against the movie are those who hide the truth about the violence suffered by Hindus in Kashmir, which was the only majority state. All those who were for the freedom of expression has been furious in recent days. Instead of reviewing the film properly, they are conspiring to discredit it, Modi said.

The movie, which had released in theatres on March 11, stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Pallavi Joshi, Darshan Kumaar, and others.
