BJP calls for cancelling of Munawar Faruqui show in Hyderabad
cancel

Hyderabad: The Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay said on Saturday that Stand up comedian Munawar Faruqui had no right to enter Telangana and urged its youth wing to hamper Faruqui's stand-up- event to be conducted at Hyderabad, reports The News Minute (TNM)

Sanjay said that other states had banned Munawar, who had joked on Ramayana and Mahabharata. While the chief minister claims himself a hard-core Hindu, his son has invited Munawar to perform here, which Hindu society needs to introspect, Bandi said.

All the state cabinet members, as well as CM KCR's son, are atheists, which is in turn, humiliating Hindu society, he added.

BJP MLA Raja Singh filed a petition before DGP on Saturday and demanded the police to deny Munawar's show permission. Singh alleged that Munawar spread hatred of the Hindu religion and its gods. He cautioned that there would be protests in public spaces if the show happened.

Munawar's show is scheduled for January 9, 2022, though the venue is not announced. Sources in the Telangana administration were quoted by the portal as saying that there is no plan to cancel the show so far, but there will be a review regarding it.

On December 17, Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development of state, KT Rama Rao, said that stand-up comedians like Munawar Faruqi and Kunal Kamra are welcome in Telangana. Hyderabad welcomes all cultures and is open to criticism, and the government is very tolerant, he said.

He was taking a dig at the Karnataka government who canceled Munawar's show in Bengaluru. It was days after that, Munawar announced his show in Hyderabad. On Friday, BJP MP D Arvind warned of stopping Munawar's show.
