Varanasi: A Varanasi court has granted the Archeological Survey of India (ASI) ten more days to complete the Gyanvapi mosque survey and submit a report, IANS reported.

The Hindu side’s counsel in the case, Madan Mohan Yadav, told IANS that the ASI demanded three weeks to submit its report, but the mosque committee opposed this. The ASI had cited technical delays, but the court granted only ten days.

“After taking into consideration all the facts, I find it proper to grant ten days more time to the ASI to file the report in the court. This court expects that within the provided time, the ASI shall positively file the report and will not seek further time,” standing government counsel Amit Kumar, who filed the plea on behalf of the ASI, quoted judge Ajay Krishna Vishvesha as saying in the order.

The court has fixed December 11 as the next date of hearing.

The ASI filed the plea on November 28, and the court finished hearing the plea on November 29.

The survey was completed almost a month ago, and the ASI requested an extension to submit its report.

The last extension was on November 18, when the ASI asked for another 15 days.

The court had allowed it ten days.

The survey, which was started on August 4, leaves out the Wuzukhana area of the mosque, which was sealed by the orders of the Supreme Court.
