Bhopal: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday claimed that as many as 80 crore Indians, including five crore people from Madhya Pradesh, got free rations during the ongoing pandemic. The PM was addressing Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana beneficiaries from the state via video call.

The Prime Minister also reiterated that people must follow all covid protocols, including wearing masks, sanitizing hands and maintaining social distancing to prevent the spread of the virus. He also added that the coronavirus pandemic is the biggest disaster faced by humanity in the last hundred years.

"India gave the first priority to the poor in its strategy to combat the crisis due to coronavirus. Be it Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana or Pradhan Mantri Rozgar Yojana, we thought about food and employment of the poor from day one itself," he said.

He also stressed his 'vocal for local' initiative and said that Indians must buy handicraft items during the festival season to encourage those in the sector.
