Washington: President Donald Trump has described Israel as a "great ally" of the United States, praising its courage and loyalty as the conflict with Iran intensifies.
In a Truth Social post on Saturday (local time), Trump highlighted Israel's steadfast support during conflicts, "unlike others". "Whether people like Israel or not, they have proven to be a great ally of the United States of America. They are courageous, bold, loyal, and smart, and, unlike others that have shown their true colours in a moment of conflict and stress, Israel fights hard, and knows how to win!" he wrote.
The comments follow Trump's warning to Israel on Friday against bombing Lebanon, where he stated, "Enough is enough."
Meanwhile, Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) has vowed to maintain strict control over Strait of Hormuz traffic until the war ends and lasting regional peace is secured. This comes after the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters announced resumed oversight of the strait, citing ongoing US naval blockades.
The SNSC, as reported by Iranian media and Xinhua, will require vessel details, issue passage permits, levy security and environmental fees, and enforce wartime traffic rules. It warned that any enemy disruption, such as a naval blockade during the current two-week ceasefire, would prompt Iran to block the strait's conditional reopening.
The council emphasised that much of the equipment for US bases in West Asia passes through the strait, viewing it as a security threat to Iran and the region.
