Lima: The newly named Prime Minister of Peru, Hector Valer, resigned on Saturday and said that he was being relentlessly targeted by newspapers, Associated Press reported. He, who resigned after just three days into office, alleged that the newspapers painted him as abusive and violent.
Valer, the third prime minister in six months of President Pedro Castello's government, resigned one day after Castello announced that he would refresh the Cabinet again as his administration was marred with crises.
Local newspapers had published certain police complaints filed against Valer in 2016 in which he was accused of domestic violence against his wife. Valer's daughter also accused him of physical attack, kicking, punching, pulling hair etc.
However, Valer had denied all the charges while his wife died in 2021.
Hector Valer is the Peruvian prime minister with the shortest term in the last 42 years, resigning in three days into office. President Castillo will name the new prime minister shortly and promised that the new Cabinet would be open to all parties as well as broad-based.
Castello's government is facing a severe crisis as the citizens who voted him to power have now started protesting against his poor choices in choosing ministers. Meanwhile, Castello's rival Keiko Fujimori, who lost to Castello in the elections, suggested that Castello must resign. She said that Castello does not know how to summon people and does not feel the responsibility of his seat.
Castello started his government on July 28, 2021.
