One dead, several injured in Karachi blast

Karachi: A bomb explosion in Karachi's Saddar area killed one and injured several others, police said on Friday.

An IED planted on Daud Pota road went off damaging around nine vehicles.

Officials said a vehicle of the Pakistan Coast Guards was the possible target, which luckily escaped unhurt.

Information Minister Sharjeel confirmed three people had been wounded, but sources put the number of wounded at 11.

Shahid Rasool, the executive director of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), reported one death.

The victim's body was moved to JPMC, located a few kilometres from the blast site.

"A 25-year-old victim was brought dead who was the hospital employer too," JPMC Additional Police Surgeon Sumaiyya Tariq Syed.

Injured ones, according to hospital sources, had ball-bearing wounds which is a hallmark of terrorist bombings in Pakistan.

The police cordoned off the area and called in the bomb disposal squad.
